Bangladesh eliminated from Asian Games
Bangladesh’s women’s football team were held to a goalless draw by Myanmar today (Monday), ending their 20th Asian Games campaign with a single point.
Bangladesh had beaten Myanmar on their home turf last year to qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time, but failed to repeat that result as both sides struggled to find the net at Osaka’s Nagai Stadium.
Myanmar had the first chance in the opening minute and came close again in the 10th, when they failed to beat Bangladesh custodian Rupna Chakma in a one-on-one situation.
Bangladesh’s best opportunity came in the 38th minute when Rituporna Chakma capitalised on a defensive mistake to collect the ball just outside the box, but her shot went narrowly over the crossbar.
Bangladesh struggled to create chances after the break, while Myanmar missed a clear opportunity in the 77th minute after finding Rupna exposed.
Myanmar controlled the closing stages but failed to break the deadlock.
Myanmar also have one point, but Bangladesh are fourth in the group on goal difference.
Earlier, Bangladesh conceded a record breaking 10-0 loss to North Korea in the opening match and suffered a 6-0 defeat to South Korea in their second group match, reports BSS.
