DHAKA - India got off to a winning start in the SAFF
U-19 Women's Championship crushing Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in their opening
match of the tournament held today (Monday) at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy
Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city's Kamalapur.
In the day's match, Nitu Linda struck twice while Santosh, Karen
Estrocio and Priyangka Devi supported her with a lone goal each for India who
led the first half by 4-0 goals in the one sided affairs.
In the proceeding, Santosh opened an account scoring the first goal for
India early in the 2nd minute while Karen doubled the lead scoring the second
goal in the 5th minute.
Nitu further widened the team's margin scoring the third goal in the 9th
minute while she scored her second and fourth goal for India in the 41st
minute of the match.
Priyanka Devi sealed the victory scoring the fifth goal for India in the
82nd minute of the match.
India, one of the title contenders of the tournament, entirely dominated
the proceeding and notched their deserving victory on the day while Sri Lanka
were totally off-colored.
India will play their next match against Bhutan on Wednesday (Dec 15)
and meet Bangladesh on Friday (Dec 17) at the same venue.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka, who earlier went down a 0-5 goal defeat to
Bhutan in their opening match, must have to win their next match against
Nepal to stay in the tournament race.
Earlier, in the day's first match, Bangladesh dumped Bhutan by 6-0 goals held at the same venue.BSS
