Mohammedan ensure last four of Federation Cup

 DHAKA - Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited moved to the semifinal of the Federation Cup football eliminating Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in the first quarterfinal held today (Sunday) at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city's Kamalapur.

   In the day's match, midfielder Shahriar Emon scored for Mohammedan while Nigerian forward Ebimobowei netted for Chittagong Abahani Limited.

   Besides, midfielder Arafat Hossain of Chittagong Abahani scored a suicidal goal during the proceeding. Both Mohammedan and Chittagong Abahani launched attacks and counter attacks and despite the repeated attempts, neither of the teams could not break the deadlock with the first half ended a tame goalless draw.

   After resumption, both the teams came to the field with more organized way to break the stalemate and finally Mohammedan took the lead through a suicidal goal. Chittagong's Abahani's Arafat made the hara-kiri scoring an own in the 65th minute.

   Emon did not take too much time to increase the margin further as he double the lead for ten times Federation Cup champions Mohammedan in the 74th minute of the match.

   Nigerian forward Ebimobowei however reduced the margin scoring a lone goal for the port city team Chittagong Abahani Limited in the 90th minute of the match.

   The traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan SC will play the first semifinal against third quarterfinalists either Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra or Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society scheduled to be held on Thursday (Jan 6) at the same venue.BSS
