Dhaka, 14 Dec -Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored a lone goal as Mohammedan Sporting Club won the battle of prestige beating their arch-rival Abahani Limited Dhaka by 1-0 goal in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football on Saturday.

Held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, Souleymane Diabate finally broke the deadlock scoring the all-important goal for Mohammedan in the 45+2nd minute of the match.

After the breather, Abahani Limited however tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they could not score any in the remaining proceeding and eventually they had to leave the field with empty hand.

With the day's victory, the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan raised their tally to nine points from three matches while the sky blue Dhanmondi outfit remained at their previous collection of six points playing the same number of outings.

Mohammedan Limited will play their next match against Bangladesh Police Football Club on December 20 while Abahani Limited will meet Bashundhara Kings on the same day.

Earlier, Mohammedan made a winning start in the league beating Dhaka Wanderers Club by 6-0 goals and edged past holders Bashundhara Kings in their second match.

While Abahani Limited blanked Fakirerpool Young Men's Club by 2-0 goals in their league opening match and beat Dhaka Wanderers Club by 1-0 goal in their second match.
