The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (Monday) issued a rule asking the respondents as to why the appointment of Dr Farzana Islam, the incumbent vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for second term should not be declared illegal. The bench of Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and Justice M Selim passed the order after hearing on a writ on the issue.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary and deputy secretary, the JU Vice Chancellor and the Pro-VC of the university have been made respondents to the rule and asked to reply within a week.
On February 15, President Md Abdul Hamid reappointed Professor Farzana Islam as VC of Jahanginagar University for the next four years.
Later, former JU VC Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir and Dr Lutfor Rahman of Drama and Dramatics Department filed a writ with the High Court challenging the reappointment of the incumbent VC.
