Bangladesh is facing a growing burden of cardiovascular disease, with around 283,800 people dying from cardiovascular diseases in 2024, equivalent to nearly 777 deaths a day, according to data cited by health experts.
The figures were highlighted as Bangladesh joins countries around the world in observing World Heart Day on September 29 to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promote preventive measures.
Health experts say high blood pressure is a major contributor to cardiovascular deaths in Bangladesh, accounting for around 52 percent of such deaths in 2024.
They stressed the importance of early detection and proper control of hypertension, particularly among younger people.
The World Heart Federation’s 2026 campaign, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” focuses on recognising often-hidden warning signs of cardiovascular disease and taking timely action.
Experts recommend regular blood-pressure checks, physical activity, a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco and seeking timely medical care to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
World Heart Day is observed annually on September 29 to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases and encourage people to take steps to protect their heart health.
