18 orgs fined out of 280 inspected in DSCC’s anti-Aedes drive

Dhaka, July 17 - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)  imposed fines totaling Tk 2.93 lakh on 18 establishments during a drive conducted by nine mobile courts for finding Aedes mosquito larvae.

In addition, special combing operations have been conducted in 88 educational institutions in the area under the corporation to destroy breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes. Besides, special combing operations have been conducted at 20 other establishments and places, including mosques and social events centres, according to a press release.

A total of 280 houses and establishments were inspected during Monday’s operation.

The drives were conducted in Segunbagicha, Motijheel, Paltan, Chawkbazar, Sutrapur, Jurain, Dakshingaon, Demra and Sharifapara areas of the corporation on Monday.

Meanwhile, another special combing operation has been conducted at 63 educational institutions and 29 places and establishments located in the areas under DSCC in coordination with the health department and waste management department of the corporation.

The courtyards and surroundings of these educational institutions and places and establishments were  being cleaned and bleaching powder was being sprayed there.

Apart from the officials and employees of the corporation, the officials and employees of the concerned institutions, school authorities and teachers are participating in these campaigns and are participating in various activities including distribution of leaflets to raise awareness among the students to prevent dengue. - UNB
