BD exceeds global average with a life expectancy of 73 years

Dhaka, Dec 12 - Bangladesh has exceeded the global average with a life expectancy of 73 years, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said on Tuesday. 

The disclosure came at the Universal Health Coverage Day 2023 programme at a hotel in Dhaka today. The theme of the day this year is : “Health for All: Time for Action”.

Referring to the success in Covid-19 vaccination, the experts at the programme also disclosed that 70% of citizen have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque urged all concerned to ensure affordable, accessible and world-standard quality healthcare for all.

Talking about some challenges, the Health Minister pointed out that “We are still facing some challenges regarding ensuring quality mother and child health care as 50% delivery are still done at home for which mother and child deaths couldn’t be reduced to a desired level”. 

Organised by Health Economics Unit of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the programme was addressed among others by Secretary Health Services Division Md Jahangir Alam and Director General of Health Economics Unit Dr Md Enamul Haque.
