Acclaimed folk singer Farida Parveen has been hospitalized in the ICU of Universal Medical College Hospital in the capital due to a series of health complications.

Her family revealed that Parveen has been grappling with kidney-related issues for some time. Recently, she was diagnosed with fluid accumulation in her lungs and a mild case of pneumonia.

"Since her admission, Alhamdulillah, her condition has improved significantly. She is currently under close observation in the ICU," shared her son, Imam Zafar Numanee.

"We are by her side, and we ask for your prayers for her recovery. InshaAllah, we hope to bring her home soon," he added.

The family also made a public plea for others, including the media, to avoid spreading rumors or misinformation regarding her health.

Farida Parveen is celebrated for her immense contributions to Bengali folk music, particularly her soulful renditions of Lalon’s songs. She began her career in 1968 performing Nazrul Sangeet on Rajshahi Radio. Her musical journey flourished when she trained in Lalon music under the guidance of her spiritual mentor, Moksed Ali Shah.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions to music, she received the Ekushey Padak in 1987 and the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer in 1993. In 2008, the Japanese government honored her with the prestigious Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize.
