5,000 Doctors to Be Recruited: CA’s Special Assistant Sayedur
The Health Ministry is set to recruit 5,000 doctors to address staffing shortages and enhance healthcare services across the country.
Professor Dr. Md Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, announced this initiative during a press briefing on Sunday, following the second session of the first day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
“The ministry has identified the need for over 5,000 doctors, particularly for entry-level positions, alongside specialists for modern hospitals,” he explained. “Efforts to create these positions are already underway, addressing shortages at union levels and in medical colleges.”
Dr. Sayedur emphasized that filling these vacancies remains a priority, with recruitment being handled both locally and through the Public Service Commission when necessary.
Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, also present at the session, addressed issues raised by the DCs related to hospitals, medical colleges, and other healthcare challenges. She highlighted the importance of disease prevention, public awareness, and tackling the increasing use of e-cigarettes among children.
Dr. Sayedur further mentioned that the DCs raised concerns about manpower shortages despite infrastructure improvements, overcrowding in hospitals, and the need for Institutes of Health Technology in various districts. He urged DCs to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to regulate unauthorized hospitals and clinics, ensuring better healthcare services.
