Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, four days after undergoing a procedure to have a stent placed in his heart. While no longer at significant risk, he will need to rest extensively at home and adhere to his doctors’ advice during his recovery.
The former Bangladesh captain returned home on 28 March after being under observation, but will need to visit the hospital again on 29 March for further tests and dental treatment. Despite being at home, Tamim is required to maintain regular contact with his medical team to monitor his progress.
Tamim's health scare began on 24 March during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at BKSP, where he was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club. After experiencing chest pain, he left the field and was initially taken to KPJ Hospital in Savar. While preparations were underway to airlift him to Dhaka, his condition worsened, and he lost consciousness. Quick intervention from Mohammedan's trainer and hospital doctors helped stabilize him, and a stent was promptly placed in his heart, saving his life.
On 26 March, Tamim was transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for further monitoring. The following day, doctors confirmed his recovery was progressing well, but also noted the need for significant lifestyle changes moving forward.
Although Tamim is now back at home, his future in cricket remains uncertain. Doctors have stated that a medical board will evaluate his condition in three to four months before making any decisions regarding his return to the sport.
Having retired from international cricket, Tamim has remained active in domestic competitions, leading Fortune Barishal to consecutive Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) titles and playing for Mohammedan in this year’s DPL prior to his health emergency. However, it is clear that he will not participate in the remainder of this season’s DPL.
