The Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Health have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly operate 10 hospitals under Bangladesh Railway, paving the way for these facilities to be opened to the general public.

Until now, these hospitals have exclusively served railway officials and staff. Following initial preparations, they will soon begin offering services to all citizens.

The MoU was signed by Railways Secretary Fahimul Islam and Health Services Division Secretary Saidur Rahman at a ceremony held at the Health Services Division auditorium in the Secretariat.

During the event, Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum acknowledged the country's ongoing shortage of doctors but expressed optimism, saying that approximately 2,000 new doctors could be recruited through a special BCS by mid-September.

Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan added that while the MoU marks a key step forward, the hospitals will require some time to become fully operational for public service.
