Ex-planning minister MA Mannan shifted to hospital from jail

Sylhet, Oct 08 - Former planning Minister and ex-MP of Sunamganj-3 constituency MA Mannan has been shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital from Sylhet Central Jail for treatment.

He was brought to the hospital under tight security around 10:30 am on Tuesday and admitted there after primary tests.

Sakhawat Hossain Rubel, Superintendent of Sylhet Central Jail, said Mannan was taken to the hospital due to his deteriorating health. After initial checkups, doctors decided to admit him.

Security for the former minister was strengthened with additional support from the army along with jail police.

Dr. Soumitra Chakraborty, deputy director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital said, Mannan is suffering from chest pain and uncontrolled diabetes.

Former Minister MA Mannan was arrested from his home in Shantiganj upazila on the night of September 19. The next day, he was shown arrested in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act at Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station.-UNB
