Ex-MP Golam Mawla Roni's home demolished in Patuakhali

Gofran Biswas, Patuakhali: The homestead of Patuakhali-3 Constituency former Member of Parliament Ghulam Mawla Roni and his brother-in-law Maqbul Ahmed, which were on government property at Galachipa in Patuakhali, have been demolished. This operation was conducted under the leadership of Abdul Qayum, Executive Magistrate of Patuakhali District Administration, on Tuesday (July 19) morning.

According to Galachipa Upazila administration sources, former member of parliament Gholam Mawla Roni and his owner have been living in Ulania bandar by illegally constructing a two-storied building with paved structures in violation of the terms of one-year settlement of Government Chandina Vita land. Despite several notices to remove his establishment from the government land, he did not take any action.

Therefore, on Tuesday morning, the district administration conducted a demolition operation.

Galachipa UNO  and Executive Magistrate Ashish Kumar said, Senior Assistant Secretary and Executive of Patuakhali District Administrator Office Abdul Qayum conducted the operation. Meanwhile, 15 to 20 illegal establishments in Ulania bandar have been removed. In this nearly 30 decimal (sotok) government land encroachment has been freed, they said.

In this regard, former MP Golam Mawla Roni said, "This is basically my father's house. We have been living here since 1960. A writ has been filed in the High Court in this regard. Still I don't know how they are demolishing my house. I will inform the court about this on Wednesday.”

A former MP from the Awami League Golam Mawla Roni has of late joined the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
