AL MP Abdus Sobhan Miah denies owning property in US

Awami League (AL) MP Mohammed Abdus Sobhan Miah, alias “Golap”, on Saturday dismissed as “rumopurs” media reports that he owns real estate worth $4 million in the United States.
“I don’t want to comment on the issue before I see the details,” he said.
On Friday, a report of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) said that Sobhan Miah owns reale state worth $4 million in New York.
Mohammed Abdus Sobhan Miah Golap served as a personal aide to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since 2009.
He was elected as an MP from Madaripur-3 in 2018.
Between 2014 and 2019, his real estate portfolio included nine properties, worth over $4 million, in New York’s Jackson Heights, reported OCCRP, a global network of investigative journalists.
The report, published on January 13, says Abdus Sobhan moved to the US in the 1980s and worked in a series of low-paid jobs to make pizzas, serving as a drugstore clerk and driving an unlicensed cab.
He began to purchase real estates in New York in 2014, says the report.
His declarations and tax records show no evidence that he had any significant earning in the US income at that point, and it is unclear how he could spend millions of dollars to buy properties in New York, says the report.
