President asks NHRC to play strong role in protecting human rights

President M Abdul Hamid today asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to play a strong role in protecting human rights on its own initiative without waiting for anyone's advice.

The President came up with the directive as a NHRC delegation, led by its Chairman Nasima Begum, submitted its annual report-2021 before him at Bangabhaban here this evening.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the President about overall activities of the NHRC and various aspects of the annual report, President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

The Head of State also directed the NHRC to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to the commission in the greater interest of the country and its people.

He gave necessary advice in addition to raising public awareness about human rights at the grassroots.

President Hamid also directed all concerned of the commission to work for implementation of the guidelines to protect human rights.

 Secretaries concerned to the President were also present there, reports BSS.
