Nazrul Islam Mithu President, Julhas Alam General Secretary of OCAB

German News Agency's Nazrul Islam Mithu has been elected president and Julhas Alam, Bureau Chief of Associated Press (AP) General Secretary of Overseas Correspondents Association Bangladesh (OCAB).

On April 26, 2024, Friday, the election for a two-year term was held after the organization's general meeting at the National Press Club. The general meeting was chaired by the convener of the organization Kadir Kallol.

A general meeting and election of the Overseas Correspondents Association of Bangladesh was held at the National Press Club on Friday 26 April 2024.

Other office bearers of the newly-elected committee are: Vice-President: Shafiqul Alam (AFP), Joint-Secretary: Naeem-ul-Karim (Xinhua), Treasurer: Pulak Ghatak (Benar News). Besides, senior members of the organization Harun Habib, Farid Hossain, Rafiqur Rahman, Parveen F Chowdhury, Mir Sabbir and Kamran Reza Chowdhury were elected executive members of the new committee. Qadir Kallol will serve as ex-officio member in this new committee. Senior journalists Shahjahan Sardar and Kadir Kallol conducted the election.

Before this, some amendment proposals to the organization's constitution and other organizational proposals were accepted unanimously in the general meeting. Members Farid Hossain, Harun Habib, Rafiqur Rahman, Parveen F Chowdhury, Moslem Uddin, Rashed Chowdhury, Julhas Alam, Pulak Ghatak, Naim-ul Karim and others participated in the discussion on the report of the member secretary. Nazrul Islam Mithu presented the report of member secretary.

At the beginning of the meeting, a condolence resolution was adopted for the deceased members of OCAB and a one minute’s silence was observed for the repose of the departed souls. - Press release
