In memorandum to EU, some expats allege rights violation in BD

Some Bangladeshi expatriates have submitted a memorandum to EU alleging Human Rights violations in Bangladesh, UNB

Dhaka, Sept 4 - A group of Bangladeshi expatriates in Europe has submitted a memorandum to the European Union (EU) demanding it put pressure on the interim government to stop alleged human rights violations and killings in Bangladesh.

In the memorandum addressed to the EU president Ursula von der Leyen the expats also urged withdrawal of false cases against leaders and activists of Awami League, including its president Sheikh Hasina who stepped down as prime minister and fled to India on August 5 in the face of a mass upsurge.

An EU official received the memorandum at the European Union headquarters in the Belgian capital Brussels on Monday (September 2, 2024) afternoon, according to a press release.

It said that false cases one after another are being filed against Bangladesh Awami League president.

They alleged that conspiracy is on to ban Bangladesh Awami League, the leading party in the Bengali liberation movement and independence war.

They mentioned that historic 32 Dhanmondi house of Bangabandhi was burnt down after fall of AL government. - UNB
