A two-member delegation of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Wednesday called on the Commission of inquiry on enforced disappearances

Dhaka, January 29: A delegation of the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Wednesday met with the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances.

The meeting was held at the commission's office in Gulshan in the capital with a two-member delegation led by HRW's Asia Director Elaine Pearson.

Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury, President of the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, welcomed them and briefed them about the commission's activities. The HRW representatives expressed concern after hearing all the horrific information about human rights violations in Bangladesh. At the time, they emphasized the need for a fair trial for such disappearances, human rights violations or extrajudicial killings.

It is worth noting that the HRW delegation will be in Bangladesh from January 26 to 30. The meeting was held in the context of exchange of views of HRW with various stakeholders in the country. – PID Handout
