Dhaka, Aug 24 —Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed an 8-member committee to collect relief for the flood-affected people of the southeastern districts of the country.
Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, standing committee member of the party, and its joint secretary general Abdus Salam Azad were made the convener of the committee, according to a press release.
The press release, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on Saturday said this committee will collect dry food, baby food, candles, wooden lighter, pure water and essential medicines at the central office at Nayapaltan for the people of the affected areas.
The party has requested the people from all walks of life to provide those relief materials to the central office as much as possible to help the flood victims.
Other members of the committee are Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, Assistant Health Affairs Secretary Parvez Reza Kakon, Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal President Hasan Jafir Tuhin, Jubo Dal Senior Vice President Rezaul Karim Paul, Swechhasebak Dal Senior Vice president Yasin Ali and Chhatra Dal Senior Vice President Abu Afsan Md. Yahya.
Meanwhile, at least eighteen people died and nearly 51 lakh people were affected as floods wreaked more havoc in vast areas of 11 districts.
So far, some 50,93,539 people have been affected and a total of 3,513 shelter centers have been opened where 3,01,993 people and 21,695 cattle took shelter. - UNB
