Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Friday stressed the need to enhance paper production in the country instead of depending on imports to meet the local demand.

“There is a huge demand for paper in the country. Instead of importing paper from abroad, we must boost local production,” he said.

The Industries Adviser made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting with officials of Karnaphuli Paper Mills Limited (KPML) at Kaptai upazila in Rangamati, according to a PID handout.

He said development activities for the paper mills will start soon. “Production capacity should be increased using local raw materials instead of relying on foreign chemicals,” he said.

Adilur Rahman Khan said the government is working to increase the production capacity of KPML and expressed hope that the mill would soon operate at full capacity and become a profitable venture.

Industries Secretary Obaidur Rahman, BCIC Chairman Md Fazlur Rahman, KPML Managing Director Shahid Ullah, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah and Superintendent of Police SM Farhad Hossain were, among others, present.

Later, the adviser visited the KPML factory and inspected its various departments, reports UNB.
