OIC Secy-Gen Hails Syrian Arab Republic’s Resumption of Membership

The 20th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and calls for their displacement from their land, which was held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 7 March 2025, approved the resumption of the membership of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The OIC Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, welcomed the resumption of the Syrian Arab Republic’s membership in the OIC, noting that the historic decision of the Council of Foreign Ministers confirms the OIC’s and its Member States’ support for the Syrian people at this critical stage of their history so that they can accomplish the political transition process in a peaceful and secure manner that ensures the restoration of the Syrian Arab Republic’s institutions, territorial integrity and status among states. He also stressed the General Secretariat’s readiness to fully cooperate with the Syrian Arab Republic in serving the goals and principles of the OIC and strengthening joint Islamic action. – UN News
