President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed during a phone call on Tuesday to pursue a limited ceasefire focused on energy and infrastructure targets in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the White House confirmed.

This move is seen as a first step toward a broader peace initiative, with the White House hopeful that it could eventually lead to a ceasefire in the Black Sea and a full resolution of the conflict. Negotiations are set to begin immediately, although it remains unclear whether Ukraine supports this phased ceasefire approach.

In the conversation, Putin also urged Trump to halt U.S. military and intelligence support for Ukraine, according to the Kremlin, as both leaders continue discussions on ending the war.

This phone call comes as the White House presses for a 30-day ceasefire to deescalate the conflict and bring about a more permanent resolution.
