Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has announced that Qatar will provide $1 billion to support a newly formed international council tasked with advancing a long-term settlement in Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the council’s inaugural meeting at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, the Qatari prime minister reaffirmed his country’s longstanding role in mediation efforts across the region.

He said the body, established under the leadership of Donald Trump, would work to ensure rapid implementation of a 20-point framework aimed at ending the conflict and stabilising Gaza.

According to the Qatari leader, the initiative seeks to deliver justice and security for both Palestinians and Israelis while advancing a broader political settlement.

“In this spirit, Qatar pledges $1bn in support of the council’s mission,” he said, adding that the goal is to achieve a final resolution that meets Palestinian aspirations for statehood and recognition while ensuring Israel’s security and regional integration.

Trump announced the formation of the council on 10 January as part of his push to halt the Gaza war. The framework was later endorsed by the UN Security Council through Resolution 2803 adopted on 17 November 2025, outlining post-war arrangements.

The council’s mandate includes overseeing Gaza’s transitional governance, coordinating reconstruction efforts and humanitarian aid, mobilising financial assistance, supporting interim security arrangements, and facilitating the deployment of an international stabilisation force while promoting a wider path toward lasting peace in the region.
