In the absence of traffic police students have been found to.oversee the movement of vehecular traffic at road intersections of capital Dhaka on Wednesday.

Policemen from constables to sub-inspectors have called abstention from work protesting against their officers who they said ordered them to take harsh actions against protesters during the recent movement.

They told journalists the fell into wrath of anti-discrimination student protesters and the people and many of them died in revenge attacks on streets and at police stations.

They believe their officers did know that the Awami League government was about to fall but did not intimate to them this information.

Clealy there is a need for immediate for change of police leadership at different levels to restore the confidence of the police rank and file and get them back to work.

We congratulate the students who have risen to the occasion and are trying their level best to fill the void created by work abstention of the police rank and file.

We believe there are still many police officers who have not been fully turned partisan and can bring the police force back to deal with law and order professionally by giving up the practice of doing favour to a section of the peopel and disfavour to others. They can regain the confidence of the people only by dealing with them professionally. The sooner this happens the better.
