In a bid to prevent potential clashes during the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, the district administration of Tangail has imposed Section 144 from 5:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Monday, March 31. The announcement was made through an official order issued by the District Commissioner’s office on Sunday, March 30.
The decision comes after concerns over the law and order situation at the Eidgah ground in Baro Basalia village, located in Tangail Sadar Upazila. The village’s Eidgah field is a major site for offering the Eid prayers, and authorities fear tensions could arise among the villagers due to the large gatherings.
District Magistrate and District Commissioner Sharifa Haque issued the directive to ensure peace and safety during the celebrations. The order specifically prohibits any gatherings, slogans, processions, parades, picketing, microphone use, drumming, creating disturbances, carrying sticks or weapons, as well as the transport of explosives. It also restricts any unauthorized entry within a 400-yard radius of the Eidgah field.
Sharifa Haque confirmed that the imposition of Section 144 is aimed at maintaining public order and preventing any untoward incidents during the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Monday.
