The curfew in Gopalganj has been extended again following recent violence and clashes linked to a rally organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman announced on Friday that the curfew will now remain in effect until 6:00 am on Saturday.
Initially imposed from 8:00 pm on 16 July to 6:00 pm the next day after deadly clashes during the NCP event, the curfew was later extended multiple times—from 6:00 pm Thursday to 11:00 am Friday, and again from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm after a short break.
This latest extension aims to prevent further unrest in the area.
Meanwhile, the interim government has formed a high-level probe committee to investigate the incidents. Led by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani, the committee includes additional secretaries from the public administration ministry and the law and justice division.
The committee must submit a detailed report to the chief adviser’s office within two weeks.
On Thursday, both the army and police issued statements affirming ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Gopalganj.
