Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that all illegal arms in the country will be recovered ahead of the upcoming national election.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Narayanganj Police Lines on Saturday, he said, “Although some weapons remain unaccounted for, we are confident that the task of recovery will be completed before the election. Political parties also have a vital role to play in this effort.”
He highlighted the importance of responsible journalism, urging the media to ensure accurate and unbiased reporting. “While political campaigns will continue, our duty is to ensure public safety,” he said.
Referring to the July uprising, the adviser noted that significant progress has been made in related investigations, although some delays occurred due to wrongful accusations in the early stages. He assured that authorities are taking steps to ensure innocent people are not harassed.
Earlier, during a visit to RAB-11 headquarters in Siddhirganj's Adamjee area, he confirmed that around 1,500 Bangladeshis were pushed back by India over the past month. Though such incidents have declined, he criticised the method of deportation.
“Indian authorities are abandoning people in border areas and forests without following legal procedures, which is unacceptable. We’ve formally protested and received some positive response,” he stated.
On the Rohingya issue, he made it clear that Bangladesh is not allowing illegal entry and is actively returning those attempting to cross the border.
In response to a recent robbery in Mohammadpur, the adviser said four suspects have been identified and three are already in custody. A stolen mobile phone has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
“No one will be spared—neither the culprits nor anyone who shows negligence,” he warned.
Senior officials including the RAB Director General, Dhaka Range DIG, Narayanganj SP, and other administrative leaders accompanied the adviser during the visit.
