Govt working to establish Media Commission: Swapon

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today said the government is working to establish an acceptable Media Commission to address all issues to strengthen the media industry. 


He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at installation ceremony of the newly elected committee of the Munshiganj Press Club at Shilpakala Academy here.

He said the government is making its strides to ensure press freedom as pledged by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Swapon said a digital measurement system is being initiated to determine newspaper circulation

He said the public has the right to get accurate and true information from the media. 

The minister said that fascist governments and authoritarian regimes try to silence the media.

He called upon the journalists to play responsible role in maintaining objectivity to present the real picture of society.

Munshiganj-3 lawmaker Md. Kamruzzaman Ratan, Acting Deputy Commissioner Mousumi Mahbub, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Menhazul Alam, Zila Parishad Administrator A.K.M. Eradat Manu, former President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) Engineer Saiful Islam, former Member Secretary of District Jubo Dal Sultan Ahmed also spoke, reports BSS.

Munshiganj Press Club president Atikur Rahman Tipu chaired the programme while its general secretary Md. Gulzar Hossain delivered the welcome address.
