Senior journalist Zahiduzzaman Faruk no more

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of veteran journalist Zahiduzzaman Faruk.



Dhaka, Aug 19 : Zahiduzzaman Faruk, editor of Dainik Orthoniti and a member of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) managing committee, breathed his last at his Dhaka residence at around 2.30 pm on Thursday.

He was also a member of the Dhaka Reporters Unity and the Economic Reporters Forum.

Zahiduzzaman Faruk started his career as a journalist in the Daily Ittefaq and rose to the position of its economic editor.

He served the Kyodo news service as its Bangladesh representative for a long time. He was president of the now defunct Overseas Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (OCAB).

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jatiya Press Club premises after Asar prayers.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul, and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

President of National Press Club, Farida Yasmeen and Secretary of the club Elias Khan in a joint statement condoled his death and sympathised with the members of his bereaved family. - UNB
