Abu Saleh Akon and Mynul Hasan Sohel have been re-elected as President and General Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) for the 2026 term, continuing the leadership roles they held in 2025.

Election Commission Chairman MA Aziz announced the results at the DRU office on Sunday. Out of 1,755 eligible voters, 1,444 cast their ballots in an election held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Several key positions were filled unopposed, including:

Vice-President: Mehdi Azad Masum

Joint Secretary: M Zafar Iqbal

Office Secretary: M Rashim

Publicity and Publication Secretary: Mizan Chowdhury

Cultural Secretary: M Monwar Hossain

Welfare Secretary: Rafik Mridha

The executive committee also welcomed seven elected members: M Aktar Hossain, Ali Azam, Mahfuz Sadi (M Mahfuzur Rahman), Al-Amin Azad, Mohammad Naimuddin, and Suman Chowdhury.

In an unusual result, M Abdul Alim and M Mazaharul Islam tied in votes. The final selection will be decided at the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted executive committee.

This election marks a continuation of leadership aimed at strengthening DRU’s role in advocating for journalists and media professionals in Bangladesh.
