Local authorities have imposed a ban on the admission of general patients to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.

Barishal, July 9 : With the recent surge in Covid cases overwhelming the health infrastructure in Barishal division, local authorities have imposed a ban on the admission of general patients to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.
“As Covid cases are surging in the municipal area, general patients with treatable medical issues at district and upazila health complexes have been prohibited from coming to SBMCH,” the  director of divisional health directorate, Basudeb Kumar Das, said on Thursday.
Doctors at the hospital are struggling to keep the crumbling health infrastructure of the premier medical facility afloat, with a daily footfall of around 2,000 patients, according to officials.
"To lessen the pressure on the hospital doctors a bit, this decision has been taken," said Basudeb.
Letters have been sent to all the district civil surgeons, district and upazila hospitals and upazila family planning officials in this regard, he added, reports UNB.
