Dhaka, Sept 25 : An unexpected shower provided some much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat but triggered traffic chaos in different parts of the capital leaving vehicles stranded on Saturday afternoon.
The heavy rainfall started around 2 pm and lasted for over an hour.
The Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) recorded 52 mm rains during the period. The cooling shower was particularly welcome following two days of the mercury rising.
However it left roads waterlogged in Moghbazar, Malibagh, Banasree, Hatirjheel, Mirpur and other parts of the capital, while the mess created around road-digging works of different utility service departments mounted pedestrians’ woes.
BMD forecast that light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds were likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions on Saturday.
Beside, a low pressure area formed over East Central Bay and adjoining area was intensified into a well-marked low over East Central Bay and adjoining northeast Bay and then intensified into a depression and further intensified into a deep depression over the same area.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, said the Met office in its forecast, reports UNB.
