Police arrested several persons for their alleged involvement in bringing out the procession.
Witnesses said the religious organisation, "Islami Qanun Bastyabayan Committee" brought out a procession at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Jumma prayer calling to ensure the rights of citizens, belonging to all the religions.
When police intercepted the procession, a chase and counter-chase took place which led to the arrest of several persons from the spot.
Besides, several persons including journalists were injured.
Hayatul Islam Khan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the processionists swooped on police when they intercept the procession.
He said several persons were injured from the procession.
Legal action will be taken after questioning the arrested persons.
