The government on Monday said a series of 10 public-focused initiatives helped ensure smoother and more organised Eid-ul-Azha celebrations across the country, bringing visible improvements in transport, waste management, public safety and market stability.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), spokesperson Mahdi Amin said the measures were implemented under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to make Eid travel and public services more citizen-friendly.

According to the PMO, the key initiatives included ensuring smoother Eid travel, timely payment of workers’ wages and bonuses, protecting the domestic cattle market, rapid removal of sacrificial waste, maintaining discipline in transport services, curbing extortion and syndicates, uninterrupted electricity supply, strengthening public safety, proper management of rawhide collection and stabilising prices of essential goods.

Mahdi Amin said the coordinated implementation of these measures brought noticeable improvements to Eid management and reflected the administration’s effort to improve service delivery.

He said government agencies worked jointly to reduce traffic congestion during Eid travel through extended holidays, enhanced monitoring and coordinated transport management, although some road accidents were still reported.

The spokesperson also said most garment workers received salaries and festival bonuses on time, helping maintain stability in industrial areas before the holiday.

To protect local farmers, authorities tightened monitoring at borders and cattle markets to prevent illegal cattle inflow, while ensuring an adequate supply of sacrificial animals nationwide, he added.

On post-Eid sanitation, Mahdi Amin said most sacrificial waste in Dhaka was cleared within eight to 12 hours, describing it as a significant improvement compared to previous years.

He also highlighted efforts to maintain stable electricity supply and monitor markets to prevent excessive price hikes of essential commodities during the holiday period.

The PMO acknowledged that longstanding institutional challenges could not be fully resolved within a short period, but said the Eid management demonstrated increased coordination and responsiveness among public agencies.

Officials said the government would continue reviewing shortcomings and strengthening coordination to improve service delivery during future national festivals.
