Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will move into Bangabhaban on Sunday (August 23), according to his office.

He is scheduled to leave his official residence on Minto Road for Bangabhaban at 10:50am that day.

Mirza Fakhrul was sworn in as Bangladesh’s 23rd president on Friday evening after serving as secretary general of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for many years.

Upon arriving at Gate 2 of Bangabhaban on Sunday, the president will be escorted by a police contingent to the Guard of Honour stage. A smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment will then present him with a Guard of Honour.

After the ceremony, President Mirza Fakhrul will proceed to his office at Bangabhaban.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul won the presidential election on Thursday with 255 votes as the BNP candidate. He had been serving as the minister for local government before being elected president.

On Saturday morning, the newly elected president is scheduled to visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. He will lay a wreath there and receive a Guard of Honour from representatives of the three armed forces.

After the ceremony, he will return to his Minto Road residence and may later travel to his Gulshan residence.
