‘Amra BNP Poribar’ has extended support to a family of five orphaned sisters in Radhanagar village under Dohar upazila of Dhaka after Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman took notice of their plight.

A report titled “Parents found hanging within a month, what will happen to five daughters in a family struggling with poverty?” published in the media drew the attention of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who is the chief patron of ‘Amra BNP Poribar’.

After seeing the report, he instructed his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon to send a delegation to stand by the family.

On Friday, a delegation, led by Amra BNP Poribar Member Secretary Agriculturist Moksedul Momin Mithun, visited the home of late farmer couple Abul Kalam Azad and Farida Begum in Radhanagar village of Bilashpur union in Dohar.

The delegation met family members, inquired about their well-being and spoke with the five orphaned daughters. Financial assistance and gift items were handed over to the family on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Responding to a question from journalists, Mithun said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formed ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ with the aim of standing by distressed people irrespective of their political affiliation.

“After the media published reports about the family’s plight, the matter came to the Prime Minister’s attention, and he immediately instructed us to stand by the family. We have come here today with a message of sympathy and assistance on his behalf,” he said.

Members of the organisation Masud Rana Liton, Mustakim Billah, Dohar upazila BNP General Secretary Masud Parvez, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal central joint general secretary Hasnain Nahian Sajib, former BUET Chhatra Dal general secretary Engineer Abu Hanif, Chhatra Dal leader Mashiur Rahman Mahan, Abdullah Al Misbah and local leaders were also present.

Farmer Abul Kalam Azad and his wife Farida Begum died within just 31 days amid prolonged financial hardship and a burden of debt.

Farida Begum died first, while her husband Abul Kalam Azad was found hanging inside their home one month later. -UNB
