An investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of a technical malfunction on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman from Japan.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ public relations department confirmed the development on Friday following the issuance of an official order forming the committee.

Earlier, flight BG-377, carrying the prime minister and his entourage, was delayed for nearly five hours due to a technical problem in the cockpit before departing for Dhaka.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, Biman said the flight had been delayed at Narita International Airport in Japan because of the technical fault.

A joint team of Biman’s engineering personnel and Japanese technicians completed the repairs in the presence of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and a Biman deputy general manager.

Following the repairs, the aircraft was pushed back at 7:43pm Bangladesh time and safely departed Narita Airport for Bangladesh at 7:55pm.

The flight carrying the prime minister landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:48am Bangladesh time on Friday.
