Two officers of Bangladesh Railway Police were injured in a clash with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members over luggage checking of some passengers on a train in Benapole on Sunday.

The injured were identified as Setafur Rahman and Intajul Haque.

Saiduzzaman, station master of Bangladesh Railway, said Md Monim, a  railway policeman, engaged in a heated argument with some members of BGB when the border guards were trying to check the luggage of some passengers of ‘the Bandhan Express’ train on Dhaka-Kolkata route.

Monim did not allow the BGB men to check the luggage of the passengers without the presence of a customs officer.

At one stage, BGB men forcibly picked up Monim in their vehicle and tried to take him to the BGB camp.

When the other railway police tried to snatch him  away, the BGB men attacked them, leaving two railway policemen injured.

Setafur and Intajul were taken to Navaron Hospital.

Contacted, commanding officer of BGB-49, Lieutenant Colonel Minhaz Siddique, said a misunderstanding took place between the two forces and it will be solved soon, reports UNB.
