Chandpur, July 28 – Police recovered nine rifles and 51 bullets which were used during the War of Independence in 1971 from under soil at Randhunimura in Haziganj municipality on Saturday afternoon. The arms and ammunition were found when one Liton Mia of the area dug a piece of land to build a building there, said Jabedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Haziganj Police Station.
Being informed by the landowner, a police team led by Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan went to the spot and recovered the antics, he added.
After examining the models of the arms, it was assumed that those might have been used during the liberation war by the freedom fighters. – UNB
