‘Edu’ minister to talk with teachers within two days

The secondary-level teachers of schools under the Monthly Pay Order system have been observing an indefinite strike in front of the National Press Club, demanding the nationalisation of their jobs.

Sheikh Kawser Ahmed, General Secretary of Bangladesh Teachers’ Association (BTA), said in this regard that they were assured from the Education Administration that a discussion is likely to be held over the issue on Tuesday or Wednesday. Although, we are expecting only announcement from the Prime Minister declaring the secondary-level school nanaitonalised.

The movement is going on under the banner of Bangladesh Teachers’ Association (BTA). It was seen on Tuesday (July 18) noon that teachers had been chanting slogans demanding nationalised their jobs in front of the National Press Club.

The teachers said that they took position on the streets demanding nationalistion of their jobs after locking the educational institutions. They will continue their movement until any specific announcement comes in this regard.

Meanwhile, teachers’ leaders claimed a discussion will be held over the issue with Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni very soon.

BTA general secretary further said, “We will withdraw our strike once Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announces our jobs nationalised. Then, we will adjust the days schools were closed due to the movement with the summer leaves.

BTA leaders started the indefinite sit-in strike demanding nationalisation of their jobs since July 11. Later, they put the schools locked since July 16. Several thousands of teachers arrived in Dhaka from different parts of the country have been participating in the movement on Tuesday.
