Barisal ready to welcome Prime Minister Hasina

Central and local leaders, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, and party General Secretary Obaidul Quader, will attend the public meeting.



Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to address a public meeting in Barisal on Friday. 

All preparations, including the stage setup at Bangabandhu Udyan, have been completed for the rally.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Barisal after five years has generated excitement not only among party leaders and activists but also among ordinary citizens. 

Afzal Hossain, organizing secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, emphasized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's significant contributions to the southern region, citing developments such as Padma Bridge, Payra Port, Thermal Power Station, universities, and medical colleges.

Central and local leaders, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, and party General Secretary Obaidul Quader, will attend the public meeting. 

Balaram Podder, a central Awami League national committee member, expressed optimism about a large gathering and a successful event, targeting a turnout of one million people.

Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah (Khokon Serniabat), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cousin and the coordinator of the visit committee, highlighted the extensive preparations around the leader's arrival, anticipating the participation of people from all walks of life.

Security measures have been intensified across the city with a four-level security arrangement to ensure the prime minister's safety during the event, said Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Jehadul Kabir.

To address any concerns or differences within the Barisal Awami League, district leaders held a meeting with union and ward-level leaders and activists from different upazilas. 

The city has been adorned with colourful decorations, repaired roads, and enhanced security, creating a festive atmosphere.

 The extended meeting of the Barisal divisional Awami League, held in conjunction with the Awami League General Secretary Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, appeared together publicly for the first time since the controversy over the nomination of Barisal City Corporation in mid-April.
