The security measures surrounding Ijtema have been undertaken with the single-phase Ijtema in mind, the RAB DG said.

Director General (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) M Khurshid Hossain said that intelligence reports suggest that there is no fear of militant attack during the Bishwa Ijtema though we remain vigilant.

“Analysing various data, no specific information was found about any kind of militant attack centering Ijtema,” he said at a press conference held on the Ijtema grounds in Tongi around 11 am on Wednesday (January 31).

The security measures surrounding Ijtema have been undertaken with the single-phase Ijtema in mind, the RAB DG said.

As part of the security arrangements, a sufficient number of RAB personnel have been deployed to strengthen regular patrolling and intelligence surveillance in plainclothes in Ijtema area and adjacent areas. RAB-1 and other four battalions will remain assigned to ensure overall security in Ijtema, he said.

Khurshid said reserve forces will be on standby to tackle any situation that might go out of control.

Alongside CCTV, helicopters, motorcycles, and patrol boats will be deployed. Drones will be coordinated by the Civil Aviation. Metal detectors will be placed at check-posts. Health camps will be erected and vehicles for emergency purposes will be available.
