Japanese Ambassador visits Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar

Dhaka, March 14 - IWAMA Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, visited Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on 14 March, with Japanese actress Sahel Rose.

The actress was born in Iran, orphaned, and then was adopted, and later moved to Japan.

Ambassador IWAMA visited an E-voucher Outlet, a Livelihoods Skills Development Training and Production Centre, and a Learning Centre in Kutupalong and Camp 4.

Approximately 1 million Rohingya Refugees reside in the camps.

Since the large Rohingya influx in August 2017, Japan has contributed over 220 million USD to various interventions in Cox's Bazar as well as in Bhasan Char through international organizations and NGOs.

These assistances included food assistance, healthcare, WASH, shelter, protection, and gender mainstreaming.

Witnessing the ongoing activities in the field, Ambassador IWAMA said, "This is my fifth visit to the Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, and I appreciate ISCG, WFP, UNHCR and UNICEF who arranged this visit. It was great that Sahel Rose also visited the camps and I hope she will communicate what she saw in the camps to people in Japan.”

More than six years have already passed from the crisis, it is essential to keep the attention of the global community, while multiple emergencies have been taking place in different parts of the world.

Japan will continue to work toward the resolution of the Rohingya issue.-UNB
