Son held for killing mother over marriage plea in Chandpur

Chandpur, April 27 -- Police arrested the son of a woman who was brutally murdered in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district on Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Rasel, the youngest son of victim Ranu Begum, 55.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sudipta Roy confirmed the arrest in a press briefing on Saturday (April 27) afternoon.

He said a team of police led by sub-inspector (SI) Ismail Hossain of Faridganj police station arrested Rasel from Kerowa village in the municipal area within 4 hours of the murder.

Later, police recovered the kachi (kaste) and blood-stained lungi and shirt from his house.

A case was filed at Faridganj police station on Saturday (April 27) following the complaint lodged by Atar Khan, husband of the victim.

ASP Sudipta Roy said Rasel was threatening his parents with consequences if they don't get him married.

"Recently, he has beaten his father over the issue," said the officer.

At around 5 am on Friday, Rusel's father Atar Khan left home for work. Later, finding his mother alone at home, he committed this gruesome murder.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rashedul Haque Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridganj Police Station Md Saidul Islam and other police officers were present at the press briefing. - UNB
