Mirza Fakhrul performs Umrah

Dhaka, May 05 - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, currently in Saudi Arabia, performed the holy Umrah on Saturday night.

BNP’s Makkah unit president Abul Kalam Azad said the BNP secretary general and his wife Rahat Ara Begum arrived in Makkah from Medina on Saturday evening.

They performed the Umrah along with some local BNP leaders and activists after Esha prayers.

Following the completion of the Umrah rituals, Azad said the couple offered prayers at Masjid-al-Haram.

Later, Fakhrul offered a munajat praying for the continued peace, prosperity, and progress of the people of Bangladesh, and the entire Muslim Ummah.

Azad said the BNP secretary general also prayed for divine blessings for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman, and millions of party leaders and workers.

He also said Fakhrul and his wife would visit various historical places in Makkah such as Mount Arafat, Mina-Muzdalifah, Maqam-e-Ibrahim, Jabal-e-Rehmat, Jabal-e-Noor, Zamzam Well, Namirah Mosque, and Makkah Museum on Sunday.

The Makkah BNP president informed that Fakhrul is scheduled to go to Jeddah from Makkah on Monday.

The BNP leader and his wife are expected to return home on May 8 (Wednesday) via a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Earlier on May 2, Fakhrul and his wife traveled to Medinah from Dhaka and offered fateha at the grave of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Pbuh). They also attended Jumma prayers in the Prophet's Mosque on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul was arrested on October 29, a day after the BNP's grand rally in Dhaka's Naya Paltan was foiled by the police. He was released on bail on February 15 after nearly three and a half months of imprisonment.

The BNP secretary general has long been suffering from various physical complications, and his condition worsened since he went to jail. His wife Rahat Ara Begum was also sick.

After his release from jail, the couple went to Singapore for treatment on March 4.-UNB
