Dhaka, Feb 7 -- Shamsul Alam Belal, former city editor of state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), passed away early Monday. He was 60.

Shamsul Alam, a member of the Jatiya Press Club(JPC), breathed his last at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka at 2 am. He has left behind his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jatiya Press Club premises at 11:30 am. He will be buried at his village home in Chouddagram, Cumilla.

He was the younger brother of Ferdous Alam Dulal a senior journalist of BSS who was killed along with Awami League's labour front leader Abdur Rahman in a gun attack at Bijoynagar in the capital in 1981.
