31 KNF members moved to Ctg Jail due to space constraints at Bandarban

Chattogram, June 11 - A total of 31 members of the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF), an armed group, were transferred from Bandarban Jail to Chattogram Central Jail on Tuesday.

The transfer included 16 women and 15 men, all under strict police security.

Senior Jail Superintendent Muhammad Manzur Hossain of Chattogram Jail said that these members are accused of serious crimes, including bank robberies and attacks on law enforcement agencies. Since their arrest, they had been detained in Bandarban District Jail, which has now exceeded its capacity.

"Chattogram Central Jail offers better security measures compared to Bandarban District Jail," said Superintendent Hossain. "Additionally, due to space constraints in Bandarban, it was essential to transfer these KNF members to avoid any potential risks."

This transfer adds to the existing KNF inmates in Chattogram Central Jail, which already housed 16 members (one woman and 15 men). With the new arrivals, the total number of KNF members in Chattogram Jail has reached 47.

The authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of the jail, managing the increased number of high-profile inmates with the utmost care.

The transfer aims to maintain order and prevent any potential incidents that could arise from overcrowding in the smaller facility in Bandarban.-UNB
