Syed Abed Ali, a former driver at the Public Service Commission (PSC), has disclosed ownership of assets valued at a minimum of Tk 500 million. According to sources, Ali's assets include a six-storey building and three flats in Dhaka, along with a duplex in his hometown of Madaripur. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted preliminary inquiries where Ali admitted to these holdings, although CID officials suspect there may be additional undisclosed assets.

Ali, along with his son Syed Sohanur Rahman, a university student, was apprehended from their residence in Dhaka's Shewrapara area. They were accused of involvement in leaking question papers for the Bangladesh Railway's deputy assistant engineer recruitment exam. The arrests extended to two PSC deputy directors, an assistant director, and 15 others, all charged under the Public Service Commission Act by CID officials.
Sohanur Rahman, formerly the secretary of relief and disaster management affairs for Dhaka South City Chhatra League, was dismissed from his position following the arrests. Abed Ali resides with his family in a flat on the fifth floor of Bismillah Tower on WASA Road in Mirpur. Local reports suggest he previously owned five apartments in the building, having recently sold two.
Speaking anonymously, a senior CID official confirmed Ali's ownership of two flats on the fifth floor and one on the fourth floor of Bismillah Tower. Additionally, Ali possesses a six-storey building in Pikepara and maintains deposits in multiple banks.
A PSC source revealed that Abed Ali used a false address during his tenure, listing Sirajganj instead of his actual hometown in Madaripur. His suspension in 2014 came after allegations of involvement in question paper leaks were substantiated.
In recent years, Ali has been actively involved in local politics, particularly in Dasar upazila of Madaripur, aiming to secure the chairmanship of the upazila parishad. Despite ongoing campaigns and lavish public appearances, the election schedule remains unannounced.
