Death toll rises to 32, hundreds injured in 13 dists

The death toll from the ongoing non-cooperation movement in Bangladesh has climbed to 32, with violent clashes reported across 13 districts.

By 4:00 p.m., fatalities included five in Feni, four in Sirajganj, and three each in Bogura, Munshiganj, Bhola, Rangpur, and Magura. Additionally, two people died in Sylhet and Pabna, while one person was killed in Dhaka, Joypurhat, Cumilla, and Barishal. These deaths occurred during confrontations involving students, police, ruling party members, and their affiliates.

In Munshiganj, three people were killed and at least 50 others injured in a clash between protestors and Awami League members. The identities of the deceased were not immediately available.

In Rangpur, four Awami League members lost their lives, and more than 100 people were injured during a confrontation with protestors.

In Pabna, three students—Zahid Islam, 19, Mahbubul Hossain, 16, and Fahim, 17—were shot dead by ruling party activists. According to police, 50 others were injured during what began as a peaceful demonstration by students of Pabna Government Edward College at Abdul Hamid Road JB intersection.

In Sirajganj, four people were killed and numerous others injured as clashes erupted between protestors, Awami League activists, and police. The district also experienced significant destruction, including vandalism and arson targeting police stations and the homes of two lawmakers.

Three people were killed in Bogura as clashes between Awami League members and protestors continued throughout the day.

In Magura, three individuals, including a Chhatra Dal leader, were killed during violent confrontations.

In Cumilla’s Debidwar area, a Jubo Dal activist was killed, and 15 people, including three children, were injured in a clash between Awami League members and protestors.

The violence underscores the escalating tension and widespread unrest sweeping across Bangladesh as the non-cooperation movement continues.
